What is Occupational Medicine?
The specialty of occupational medicine is practiced within the discipline of public health and preventive medicine. Occupational illnesses and injuries are unique because, to a reasonable extent, they are preventable. At United Occupational Medicine, our initial goal is to restore the injured to their functional, pre-injury status, as soon as possible.
But simply resolving the injury isn't enough. The staff at United Occupational Medicine believes we should strive for excellent health, not just freedom from disease. Therefore, we will frequently suggest life-style changes the individual can adopt to minimize injuries and optimize health. The promotion of a healthy workforce brings us one step closer to the realization of a healthy community -- a goal we should all embrace.
In addition to our expertise and services in treating work related injuries & illnesses, our primary services include:
- Post offer exams
- D.O.T. exams
- Vision testing
- Spirometry
- Hearing tests
- Drug testing
- Breath alcohol testing
- Medical Review Office services.
We also work with employers to reduce occupational hazards in several ways including:
- Medical surveillance of workers exposed to a wide variety of hazards including asbestos, lead, and pesticides
- Education of employees on the risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens
- Ergonomic evaluation of workstations
- Assisting in hearing conservation programs
- On-site evaluations
- Respirator qualification evaluations
